Community Highlights: Meet Janice Rivera
Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Rivera.
Hi Janice, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hey there! I’m Janice, the founder of The San Diego Beach Lifestyle – A strong tribe of San Diego County residents who get weekly information about the best local beaches, happy hours, live music, sporting events, entertainment, fun activities and local market real estate updates in San Diego, California. Plus the best hiking, biking, health and wellness options, new hot spots and more! I also work with buyer and sellers in the coastal and surrounding areas of San Diego who are looking to “live the dream” of homeownership in one of the best vacation spots in the country!
I’ve been a Realtor with my husband for over ten years and a co-owner of a thriving real estate and mortgage company in Pacific Beach. The RDT Realty Group & RDT Mortgage. My team and I have served over numerous families to date. The best praise I’ve ever received from a client was: “Janice and her team gave 5-star excellent customer service and exceeded our expectations! They actually made the home buying process easy and fun!” Helping people to achieve their dream of homeownership in a competitive market like that makes me so proud and drives everything I do!
My mission is education and a thorough understanding of the local market so that I can be the best advisor to my clients. I want them to understand that a home is more than just a place to live, but also an investment for their future! When I’m not helping people buy or sell their dream home, I can be found hanging out with my family at the beach, serving at our local church or growing and empowering my professional women’s group called WOVEN.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Prior to working full-time in our companies, I worked in healthcare as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and have been in the medical field for over 20 years. During COVID, I was furloughed due to reduction in doing surgery cases. I also got very sick with pneumonia (not COVID) and therefore was told that because of recent sickness that going back into work in the hospital, where I would be working with COVID patients, that I would be at very high risk if I was to get exposed. This brought tremendous worry and anxiety for me and my family and therefore, I had to make the decision? Would I go back into healthcare or should I focus on our current businesses? How would that look like? I didn’t want to be another “ordinary” real estate agent. I wanted to give back to the community and the people I serve on a daily business.
I also saw that many people were leaving San Diego and California because of either too tight restrictions, the economy, losing their businesses and the difficult real estate market. I wanted to help with that. I wanted to show that San Diego is STILL an amazing place to live and a place to “fight” for. That is where the San Diego Beach Lifestyle was created. People need to understand that homeownership is possible; rebuilding comes with determination and sacrifice and getting the support necessary to make that happen. That is why I showcase weekly local events, interviews and promotions of local businesses and opportunities in the real estate market.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I am and have always been a “risk-taker”… so much so that my father said that I should have been born a “boy” because I always was a “dare-devil.” Taking risks means getting out of your “comfort zone.” It’s stepping out in faith to achieve a goal or dream so one can fulfill their purpose in life. Of course, it also comes with a huge responsibility. That is why one needs to seek wise counsel and guidance before taking “life-changing” steps. When you are young, you think the whole world and time is ahead of you, so if you “mess up,” you have all the time in the world to correct it. That is not so true when you become my age… when you have a family or people counting on you, you need to think twice or take more calculated risks. Either way, one should never be afraid to fail. Failure and disappointment are two of the most useful resources for any entrepreneur or business owner.
